Job Description:
Sepax Bioscience, Inc. is seeking a self-motivated, goal-oriented, and energetic Scientist to lead new technology and product development projects focused on chromatography materials for biological separations. This role offers the opportunity to innovate in a hands-on environment and drive development from concept to commercialization. This is a full-time exempt in-person position based at our office located in Newark, Delaware.
Requirements:
- Ph. D. degree in chemistry, material science, or biochemistry
- Up to 5 years of laboratory/research experience.
- Strong technical background in organic and polymer synthesis.
- Experience in surface chemistry modification.
- Familiarity with HPLC, FPLC, and process chromatography.
- Knowledge of biological molecule characterization and purification.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP systems.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of new resin products for chromatographic applications.
- Design and execute synthetic strategies for agarose and polymer-based chromatographic resins.
- Synthesize and characterize chromatographic resin by SEM, TGA, FTIR, particle size laser diffraction and mercury intrusion porosimetry.
- Pack and evaluate HPLC and FPLC columns using AKTA instruments and UNICORN software.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of laboratory work in laboratory notebooks and controlled records.
- Author technical reports and present findings internally.
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment such as particle size analyzers, BET surface area analyzers, AKTA systems, and mercury intrusion porosimeters. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and provide training to technicians.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, sales, manufacturing, and customers to support bulk resin commercialization.
- Support technology transfer and scale-up activities for commercializing new chromatography resin products.
- Write and file patent applications for novel inventions related to chromatography resins and their applications.
- Supervise, train, and oversee lab technicians’ development.
- Utilize and maintain the ERP system to optimize daily departmental functions.
- Performance of general housekeeping maintenance in the laboratory and tidiness in work areas.
- Observe safety precautions as outlined in safety manuals and training.
